Linking Strategies - Where Should That Link Go?

Thursday, September 6, 2007

What are your linking strategies for your web site? Don't overlook one of the most important elements - where the link goes. There are two reasons it is important. First, you are optimizing the specific page the link points to, meaning you make it more important and more likely to be found in the search engine results pages. Second, you want your visitors to "land" on the right page.
Linking Strategies For Optimization
Why link to pages other than the homepage? Because it makes sense. on some of my web sites, I link only to the homepage, while on others I have articles out there that link to several different pages. It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
If you are starting a website, or when it is relatively undeveloped, you'll usually want to link to the homepage. It's important to get your homepage into the results-pages of those search engines, so you want as many incoming links as you can get. In addition, the other pages on your site get increased exposure and higher search engine rankings as a result of your homepage doing better.
On the other hand, if you add a new section to a web site, it can make sense to optimize the introductory page for this with incoming links. For example, when I added a section on real estate investing to my site Houses Under Fifty Thousand .com. I used the anchor text "Investing In Real Estate" in the links from many authors resource boxes on my articles - and the links went straight to the page that listed the investing pages. It was a good keyword, so I wanted to target it directly, rather than just promoting it and linking to it from the homepage.
Note: When it is a really good keyword, you may be better off starting a new website that targets it, and then linking to that new site from your existing one.
Linking Strategies For Monetization
The other reason it matters where the link goes, is that you want visitors who comes in on that link to be in the right place. Ask yourself where the readers should "land" on your site(s) for you to get the most value out of them. These might include:
- Your website that makes you the most revenue per visitor.
- A page that makes you the most revenue per visitor.
- The page most relevant to the topic of the article the link is in.
- A page with the subscription form for your newsletter.
- A page where you sell something.
- A page that lists all of your other articles they may want to read.
My own incoming links are mostly from articles that I write and distribute. In an article on how to solve riddles, written for my brainpower website, it is probably better to send the readers straight to the page that introduces all the other riddle and puzzle pages. If sent to the homepage, they might be less interested and less likely to stick around long enough to buy something or click on an advertisement.
Think carefully about where your links go. Many of them, such as those in your articles and forum posts, can't be changed once they are out there. In other words, you should try to get those web site linking strategies correct from the start.

Making Money From Articles - How Much Can You Make
Making Money with Articles: How Much Can I Make?
How much you can make from placing articles and affiliate links on your website differs from person to person. How much you are able to make will depend mostly on how successful your site is. This means getting good search engine rankings through SEO efforts, making your site enjoyable and informative to read through engaging content, building your site around a great niche subject, how big your site is, and how many sites you have.
Some people claim to make as much as $10,000 per month ($120,000 per year) through building and promoting niche sites, however, most people should not expect this kind of success, especially if you are very new, as that kind of success usually only comes with experience and acquired skill. A reasonable income to expect from a niche site, after you have worked for months to gain traffic and are hooked up with good affiliates, may be $500-$1,000 per month. However this is recurring income, so you will make that much monthly off of the efforts you put into that one site, it is not a one shot deal.
After you have a successful site, most choose to continue to build niche sites. The more sites that you build, the better an income you can generate. Some also choose to build very fast and very short sites over sites that are slightly longer in length. It should be noted that the larger each of your sites are, the more income you will likely generate off of them.
When starting out, it is important to remember that your first site will always be your hardest, since you are just learning the ropes of the business, and that not everyone is cut out to market and promote niche sites. It may not work out for you and you may end up losing a little bit of money, but that is a risk that everyone in this business has to take.
The important thing is that you dont give up without a good shot at it, if this is really what you want to do. Your first site may take a long time, the work may be tedious, and you may feel like throwing in the towel. However, if you give up too early, you will never know what could have been. And who knows, you may be the next great website marketer!

Turning Your first 1500gp into 50,000gp in Runescape
Once you have 1500gp in your pocket it is time to start doubling or even tripling your money. To do this go to the fishing dock on Karjama. There you are going to buy as many cooked lobsters as you can. The going price is 100gp to 300gp. Usually you can get them for 125gp.
Once all your money is spent or your inventory is full it is time to leave. Remember to save 30gp for the ride back to Port Sarim. Talk to the customs officer to go back. After the ride head toVarrock's town square and sell your lobsters for 200gp to 300gp each. You can start by standing in the market and saying "cooked lobby's for sale" it will not take long to sell them. Usually the market is jam packed with people and it is hard to see what people are saying so check out the bonus on the download page for a macro that will help you with typing messages. It will allow you to say "cooked lobbys for sale" really fast over and over so you can get other people's attention.
So say you started with 1500gp and bought 12 lobsters for 125gp each. You would have to work the banana farm one more time for 30gp for the ride back. Then you sold the lobbys for 225gp each.. You would now have 2100gp. That is 1200gp profit!!! You now have enough to go back to Karjama and buy 21 lobsters turn them into 4725 and make even more money on the next trip. Each trip from now on should bring at least 2500gp. Keep doing this until you have around 50,000gp.
Here are a few tips:
* Not everyone will sell there lobbys for what you want to pay. Don't worry about them. If there is not anyone selling try another world.
* After you find someone selling for a good price ask them if they have or will have more lobsters to sell. Usually they are training their fishing skill and will be happy to sell you all they can get. If you get two or three fishers supplying you lobbys you are in business!!!
* You can use the macro to buy the lobbys too.
* Once you have some money buy as many lobbys as you can and make a run to the bank. Turn them into notes and go back to buy more.
* You can get more for your lobbys when you have a lot of them.
* You do not have to sell them just at the Varrock market. Other good places to sell them are: The Edgeville bank, Falador bank, Varrock banks, Draynor bank, Or anywhere else.
